Film Independent Spirit Awards

This was my first year as a Film Independent member.  I decided to join for the networking opportunities, the free screenings and the handful of screeners that they send to their voting members.  I watched as many of the nominated flicks that I could find time for, but many  slipped past my radar or I just didn’t have time to hit the screening in Downtown LA.

Also being that this is my first year as a voting member, I could be breaking some protocol with this post.  If I am, sorry.  I will remove it at Film Independents request, but being that the Award Ceremony is only hours away, I doubt I’ll get in too much hot water.

Sure some of my picks will not be winners, but below I’ll be listing what I actually voted for.  These weren’t necessarily the best of the nominated films, but the best of what I actually had time to see.  Hopefully for 2010 I’ll have a lot more free time to give a better assessment of all the nominated films.

BEST DOCUMENTARY: Anvil! The Story of Anvil

BEST FOREIGN FILM: A Prophet

BEST FIRST FEATURE: A Single Man (Tom Ford)

BEST FIRST SCREENPLAY: Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart)

BEST DIRECTOR: Michael Hoffman (Last Station)

BEST SCREENPLAY: Scott Neustadter & Michael H Weber (500 Days of Summer)

BEST FEATURE: (500) Days of Summer
